Winnie Winster's Addictive Slot Social Game

Summary of post
A review of Slot Social. It is impossible to resist the lure of this social 'friends help friends' free game site where you can play hours helping online gameaholics win Amazon gift cards and other cool prizes, for free. Winnie Winster is ingenious and I am completely addicted!

What's Slot Social

Spin for cherries, bananas, grapes, single to triple bars, 7s, diamonds, winnies and wilds. Even better, trade with online buddies on a 5 person playing board. In a civilised 'room', buddies will take turns cashing the jackpot - 4 wilds and 1 Winnie. This wildly addictive game will consume those susceptible to such activities, namely yours truly.

What does it cost?

It's absolutely free. Upon signing up you get 200 free spins daily.

What do I get out of this?

There are heaps of prizes you can win, including $5 and $10 Amazon gift cards. You accumulate points by playing the game, then when you have enough, just redeem them for your choice prize. Plus you might make some friends too. It pays to cooperate and trade pieces, and also to work towards the Jackpot.

What do I REALLY get out of this?

Well, I did some rough calculations today. If you play jackpot with buddies, you could get about 25 cents an hour for your fun. This is based on a $5 Amazon gift certificate redeemable for 1,000,000 points, and it takes about 1 hour to accumulate 50,000 points. Not very lucrative, and I wouldn't recommend giving up your day job for this, but hey, it's fun and it's free! If you played everyday for an hour, that $5 reward would be yours in less than a month.

Wanna play? Try Slot Social now!

Additional Information

I finally signed up for basic membership $4.99 today. This gives me 4x points and 300 spins instead of 200 spins daily. So this means that it would take only 5 days to get that Amazon $5 gift card, playing 1 hour a day. And I can play without those pesky little ads showing up every 10 minutes! Yippee!

Review of Ebates, Fatwallet, Shopathome, Bigcrumbs, MrRebates cashback rewards

Summary of post
This is a review of some of the best cashback reward programs out there, helping you get money back for shopping online. In my experience, Ebates consistently comes out tops, followed by MrRebates, Fatwallet, Shopathome.com and BigCrumbs. However, you will benefit most if you sign up for all five cashback programs because the cashback percentage offered varies. (UPDATE: my previous review included Cashbaq  - a good program that went bankrupt in 2011. Now Ebates is actively recruiting former Cashbaq members by offering to pay whatever credit was in their Cashbaq account. I've updated the rest of this post to reflect this development).

How Cashback Reward Programs Work

In a nutshell, merchants pay these cashback sites (Ebates, Fatwallet and etc) commissions to send us to the merchants. The cashback sites then give us a percentage of those commissions. Most of the sites require you to click through a trackback link that brings you to the merchant's online store and complete your purchase asap. And better still, the cashback rewarded is stackable (in addition to) any discount

Verizon Refund for $9.99 Ringaza Ringtone Unauthorized Charge: How to Get Your Money Back

Summary of post
This article is for you if you have been billed by Verizon, Alltel (or any mobile phone provider) for $9.99 subscription to Ringaza (or any ringtone provider) that you did not authorize or knowingly signed up for. I managed to get my money refunded by Verizon for these charges.

How I Fell For This Scam
(You can skip this and scroll right down to 'How I Got My Refund')
I do surveys online to try out new products and get paid doing so, and had positive experience with an online survey site Pandaresearch.com. Last month I clicked on a link on their website promising a free ringtone that brought me to a page requesting me to enter my mobile phone number so that the free ringtone could be delivered to me. I am extremely cautious about these 'free' deals, but have also successfully tried many new products via free trial periods that allow cancellation before the end of the free trial.

Since I didn't have to enter any credit card details, I thought it was safe, and I entered

Get Paid $2 for your opinions at Reviewstream.com

Summary of Post: This post is for anyone who would like to make money for each (accepted) review submitted to Reviewstream.com

I stumbled across this paid review site Reviewstream.com last week that offers $2 for every review published. I'm usually cautious about investing any time into sites like these, but I figured that since I give my opinions and product reviews to other sites (e.g. Epinions.com and Amazon.com) anyways, why not make a couple of bucks for my time?

So I penned a quick review of my experience with United Mileage Plus' Restaurant.com point redemption (you can read it here), and

FTD Flowers Gift $10 $15 20% 25% Discount Promotion Code Entertainment Book

I've listed choice links that I've personally tested (they work as of 3 Aug 2012!) and they are good for $15 off your FTD.com purchase (minimum purchase of $19.99), or 20% or 10% off your purchase. It's possible to buy a gift for $5 (birthday bear soft toy) or lovely fresh flowers for a little as $14.99, using these discount coupons/links.

I actually got the $15 off link by subscribing to Entertainment Book. An insert in the book states "With this special offer Entertainment members save $15 on each item purchased". I've looked, and while there are 10% to 15% discounts floating around, mine is currently the only site linked to the 20% discount. I used to link to a 25% discount too - that one isn't working presently but I will bring it back when it works again.

I've done the math - if your purchase is less than $60, use the $15 discount; but if your purchase is more than $60, you'll save more using the 20% discount.

For a $15 discount on online orders (Gracie's pick! For orders below $60, prior to discount being applied):
Visit www.ftd.com/ent2010 and place your order. The $15 discount is applied automatically when you go through this LINK. (Update: 20 July 2012, I just checked and this link works good!)

For a 20% discount on all products (Gracie's pick! For orders above $60, prior to discount being applied):
Visit www.ftd.com/entertainment2010 and place your order. The 20% discount is applied automatically when you go through this link.

Other options (if the 20% coupon doesn't work):
For a 10% discount on all products:
Click through this link (The 10% discount is applied automatically)

For a $10 discount for phone orders:
Call 1-800-SEND-FTD and use the promo code: 20100 when placing your order.

By the way, there is a cool way to see how the different links give you different discounts off the same item. First visit

IHerb.com $5 off discount code for new customers

Summary of post
To get $5 off your first purchase at Iherb.com enter this discount coupon code RAC010 at checkout.

Everybody likes getting a good deal on their purchases.

I'm the type of shopper who spends hours comparing prices of supplement brands that I take. I calculate the shipping and total cost of buying a product from several different merchants. Laying this information out in an MsExcel spreadsheet helps with the comparisons and decision-making. Over the years, there are several merchants that I have found give consistently low prices on their products. So I usually compare product prices for just these merchants to save time.

Today, I was comparison shopping online for the New Chapter (Bone Strength Take Care and Every Woman's One Daily) and the DHA fish oil supplements that I take, and I found out that iHerb.com, one of the online merchants I usually frequent just launched a rewards program that gives new customers an instant $5 off their first order. All you need to do to get this $5 discount is to enter this discount code RAC010 at check out.

I'm interested to see how this new rewards program works out. We'll see!

By the way, I've also compiled in one handy location, links with discounts and coupons to all the places where I shop online. Check out Where Gracie Shops!

Trying to make money

Being jobless since November 2008 (I quit my job at the Forest Research Institute Malaysia to join my husband in the US) has been hard on my self-esteem and general state of mind.

Since then I have used all sorts of methods to save or make money, and I'll get down to writing about some of the better ones in the next few posts. These include using coupons ('coupon gaming' or 'couponing'), subscribing to sites like GreatFun, Autovantage and other sites under the much-maligned Trilegiant Corp (I've received $80 worth in free gas and checks since 2007, for trying out their services at no cost to me), participating in surveys (NPDOR, Surveyspot, Pandaresearch, etc), and blogging (Google Adsense has brought in a couple of dollars through clickthroughs so far, but I haven't blogged enough to attract readers...yet!).

Today I stumbled across a review site called Reviewstream.com that is currently offering $2 for each short review anyone submits. Since I am such an opinionated person and I post my reviews on products, stuff, and Life any chance I get online, I thought 'Hey why not get paid for it?'. So I penned a quick review of how to make money selling Restaurant.com gift certificates on Ebay that have been redeemed from the United Mileage Plus site. So far I made $30 selling two $100 certificates, which is pretty good considering my UMP points are nowhere near enough to get a free flight anywhere. I had only 8000 points and got four $100 certificates for them. I've submitted my review to Reviewstream.comand if they like it, I get paid (via Paypal). Fingers crossed for two bucks!
